Our Mission



The mission of the Greater Gallatin Watershed Council is to promote conservation and enhancement of our water resources while supporting the traditions of community, agriculture and recreation.

Our Vision

 We, as representatives and partners of the Greater Gallatin Watershed Council:

  • care about the water resources in the greater Gallatin watershed;
  • acknowledge, understand and appreciate the diversity of our community;
  • strive to be a trustworthy source of information, research initiatives and technical assistance, educational resources and watershed-related expertise;
  • are action-oriented in our efforts to support the conservation and restoration of the watershed’s water resources;
  • provide opportunities for community participation in discussion of issues and decision-making;
  • assist our community partners in identifying and addressing their needs, finding opportunities for collaboration, leveraging money, and initiating or sponsoring projects as needed;
  • are a financially sustainable organization with diverse funding sources that support our operating and administrative expenses. 

Our Goals

Some of our goals include:

  • Gather data on streams not meeting State water quality requirements, provide the information to the public, and bring Gallatin Valley residents together to develop a water quality restoration plan for improving these streams
  • Create a citizen-led Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program for our watershed
  • Facilitate on-the-ground water quality restoration projects
  • Hold public forums and tours to educate residents about the need to conserve our water resources
